Just like you, your pet requires dental care. Plaque and tartar build up can actually lead to infections that may affect the health of your pet. The Roscommon Veterinary Clinic offers dental care services which include regular cleanings, tooth extractions and other dental procedures.
Unlike us, anesthetic is required for your pet during dental cleanings. During this time, the doctor will have the opportunity to clean your pet’s teeth as well as check for other problems such as signs of periodontal disease.
Periodontal Disease may develop in pets that have not had regular dental cleanings. Beginning as plaque, the plaque hardens creating tarter which begins to damage your pet’s teeth and gums. If left untreated, it may develop into gingivitis and later cause periodontal disease. This infection may lead to a variety of health problems elsewhere in your pet.
Symptoms That May Be Attributed To Periodontal Disease Include:
- Problems or pain chewing
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Swollen or bleeding gums
- Bad Breath
- Pawing at the mouth
